Waterloo Buddhist Film Festival

The Waterloo Riverview Dharma Centre presents its 12th annual Buddhist Film Festival, Saturday, Nov. 7 at Emmanuel United Church in Waterloo.
The film festival features 3 films: The Wisdom to Survive, Room to Breathe and Journey From Zanskar.

The Wisdom to Survive: Climate change is taking place. Will we have the wisdom to survive? Leaders in the realms of science, economics and spirituality urge us to open ourselves to the beauty that surrounds us and get to work on ensuring it thrives. Directors: John Ankele and Anne Macksoud, 2014.

Room to Breathe: A surprising story of transformation as struggling kids in a San Fransisco public middle school are introduced to the practice of mindfulness meditation. Confronted by defiance, contempt for authority figures, and poor discipline, can a young mindfulness teacher succeed in opening their minds and hearts? Director: Russell Long, 2012.

Journey from Zanskar: From the director of the internationally acclaimed film Hoop Dreams comes this moving and heartbreaking story of a monk’s vow to help provide education for children in the remote Himalayan region. Narrated by Richard Gere. Directors: Frederick Marx, 2010.

The event also features a vegetarian buffet dinner catered by Vijay’s Indian Cuisine.
