This workshop will cover the basics of chronic pain, including what it is, how it works, and the role of neuroplasticity .
Participants will then explore how mindfulness practices can play an important role in helping people who suffer with chronic pain, both theoretically and experientially.
There will be opportunities to move and stretch, and a mid-workshop bio break.
Participants will be provided with on line resources to support your ongoing personal mindfulness practice and management of chronic pain .
About the Presenter
Eleni Hapidou, Ph.D., C. Psych., is a clinical, health and rehabilitation psychologist practicing for the better part of 30 years. She works at the Michael G. DeGroote Pain Clinic, Hamilton Health Sciences, where she also conducts research, and teaches at McMaster University. Eleni is also a Yoga Teacher trained in the Sivananda and Satyananda lineage. She has trained with various teachers over the years that include Yogis, Rishis, Swamis some of whom hold MDs and PhDs and has participated in many retreats on Yoga and Meditation in Canada, the Bahamas, and India.
Eleni has been teaching Yoga and Meditation to her patients with chronic pain, depression, anxiety and PTSD. She has conducted thousands of meditation sessions over the years and has also recorded her own CDs of guided meditations. She has extensive experience in Mindfulness techniques.
