A DAY OF MINDFULNESS: THEORY AND PRACTICE

February 26, 2017 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

 with Anna Taneburgo

 April 29, 2017 8:30 am – 4:15 pm

This workshop/retreat will explain the principles of mindfulness while also providing ample opportunity to understand them from personal experience through the practices.  It is appropriate for anyone who is relatively new to mindfulness and looking to increase their knowledge and practice, especially the benefit of short retreat experience; but also appropriate for participants who are more experienced and perhaps wanting a refresher.

Mindfulness promotes personal wellness on all levels of being. It is an evidence-based practice in which participants can experience:

  • greater ability to cope with daily stress
  • lasting decreases in physical and psychological symptoms
  • greater ability to learn and focus
  • enhanced interpersonal communication and relationships
  • greater energy and enthusiasm for life

The morning will be an introduction to mindfulness through both practice and teaching. Topics will include:

  • What is mindfulness and how does it work?
  • How can it help me reduce stress in my personal life and in my work?
  • Can science prove that mindfulness works?
  • Why has it become so popular in western culture?

There will be ample opportunity for Q&A.

The afternoon will provide further opportunity to practice mindfulness with a series of guided meditations, both seated and moving.

Please wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring a shawl, blanket or extra sweater, and a pillow for your seat, if desired.
