DESCRIPTION:About this Event \nJoin Michele and Carla for a day of silence\, stillness and creative expression at the beautiful\, peaceful surroundings of St. Brigid’s Villa at the Ignatius Jesuit Centre. \nParticipate in guided meditations and visualizations\, nature walks\, and express your creativity by making art using natural materials of rocks and trees. Michele believes that art is part of us and we should be more conscious of the impact beauty has on our lives. \nLunch\, snacks and coffee/tea are included. As are all art materials. \nPlease dress for the weather as we will be outside for a portion of the day. Bring a refillable water bottle. \nCarla Waites is a facilitator of SMARTinEducation courses (stress management and resiliency techniques)and offers mindfulness presentations\, workshops and retreats. \nMichele Kleinschuck is a Visual Arts Specialist and educator with WRDSB. DESCRIPTION:SMART™ (Stress Management And Resiliency Techniques) Education is a 9-session\, 20-hour evidence-based program designed to address the needs of educators\, professional support staff\, and those involved in the lives of children and youth.\nThis evidence-based course trains educators to better manage work-related and personal stress\, in order to cultivate emotional balance. SMART integrates the teachings\, practices and research from Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction\, emotion theory\, and compassion training to address the specific needs and challenges of educators. Each session consists of presentations\, group discussion and experiential practices in mindfulness. A 4-hour silent retreat and weekly home practice is also part of the course.\nSMART is a secular program\, delivered by SMART UBC accredited facilitators.
