DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Goodness Me! Natural Food Market \nIn this workshop\, Kate Dunn and Carla LaBella will explore the concept of digital wellness and its importance in helping us establish balance\, focus and clarity in our personal and professional lives. Learn more about how our digital consumption can affect us physically\, mentally\, and emotionally and how we can harness our tech devices to restore a sense of balance\, increase productivity\, and enhance overall well-being. \nAgenda: \n\n\n\nWhat is digital wellness and why is it important?\nThe digital wellness imperative\nExploring the impacts of technology\nPractical strategies to address digital fatigue\, including a mindfulness exercise\n\n\n\n \nKate Dunn (she/her) holds a Masters degree in Sociology from Western University and has nearly two decades of teaching experience at the post-secondary level in Interdisciplinary Studies. She obtained her certification in Unified Mindfulness (2022) and has both taught and developed courses focused on Gender\, EDI\, Positive Psychology\, and Digital Wellness. Her written work has been featured in the London School of Economics and Political Science\, Gender & Society\, Contemporary Sociology\, and the Canadian Journal of Sociology. A strong advocate for mental health and well-being\, Kate is also the founder of Rooted in Wellness Canada\, an online platform committed to sharing the principles of Positive Psychology and enhancing and fostering a culture of positive mental health within the community in which she lives and works. For more information\, please visit: https://www.rootedinwellnesscanada.ca/ \n \nCarla LaBella (she/her) is a Professor of Psychology at Mohawk College. She teaches a variety of psychology-related courses (primarily Introductory Psychology and Positive Psychology) to various programs within the College. She is the co-facilitator and co-founder of the Happiness Series for students and staff\, and she offers wellness sessions throughout the College and in the greater Hamilton community. Outside the College\, she is a board member for the Suicide Prevention Community Council of Hamilton (SPCCH)\, the Hamilton Program for Schizophrenia (HPS)\, and she is a committee member for Mindfulness Hamilton. She earned her MA in Cognitive Psychology from the University of Waterloo\, Honours BA in Psychology from McMaster University\, a Certificate in Applied Positive Psychology from the Flourishing Center\, and she became a Modo Yoga teacher and a Unified Mindfulness Coach. DESCRIPTION:As you step into a new year\, join us for this experiential workshop designed to help you cultivate mindful goals and resolutions for the new year. This session will provide a supportive and reflective environment where you can explore approaching your goals through the lenses of mindfulness\, loving-kindness\, self-compassion\, and intentionality. You will leave the workshop with a clearer understanding of how to set mindful\, achievable goals while cultivating strategies to remain focused and mindful amidst distractions. Whether you’re new to mindfulness practices or have prior experience\, this session will provide valuable insights and tools for everyone. Join us for this journey of self-discovery and intention-setting as we welcome the new year with clarity\, purpose\, and mindfulness. \nMorning Session: Navigating Challenges with Mindfulness\nIn the morning\, you will explore the obstacles that can get in the way of achieving your goals. Through guided visualization and mindfulness exercises\, identify what matters to you and change the conversation you have with yourself as you learn strategies to work mindfully with challenging thoughts and emotions. \nAfternoon Session: Mindfulness in the Digital Age\nIn the afternoon\, you will explore how to navigate goal-setting in our technology-driven world. Drawing on research about effective goal-setting\, you’ll receive tips for creating a mindful action plan.
