SUMMARY:MYndful Movement for Parent-Child Connection: A Mindfulness Toronto Community Meeting
DESCRIPTION:IT TAKES A VILLAGE \n“A child is a bell of mindfulness\, reminding us how marvelous life is”\n~ Thich Nhat Hanh \nMany of us have heard the African proverb “it takes a village to raise a child”\, which means that it takes many people in a community to provide children with the foundational tools and experiences needed to flourish. We all hold multiple roles throughout our lifespan\, including that of parent or caregiver\, Elder\, sibling\, friend\, and even teacher or mentor. In all of these roles\, we have the opportunity to listen\, to learn\, and to teach. Much of our teachings can be delivered through the embodiment of mindfulness\, which is grounded in our personal practice. \nOn April 19th\, we had the pleasure of learning from Dr. Shelley Murphy who shared how we may cultivate inner presence and peace using trauma-sensitive mindfulness tools and practice. The emergence of trauma-sensitive practice in the field of mindfulness recognizes that many of us come to the practice with existing trauma\, which may make the cultivation of mindfulness difficult when triggered. Through a short experiential practice\, Dr. Murphy shared three notable containment resources that we may draw on to help ground\, or reground ourselves during a practice\, including: envisioning a safe place\, envisioning a safe person\, and self-touch. The recording of this session may be viewed by Mindfulness Toronto members on our YouTube page. \nThis month\, Mindfulness Toronto offers a space to practice and to learn about how we can infuse our family\, our classroom\, and our community\, with mindfulness and compassion\, to support our children. Join us for another incredible session featuring Deb Taylor on May 17th. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLet’s bring mindfulness and social-emotional learning to our families for greater acceptance\, compassion\, focus and peace. \nParents and those who serve parents will learn and practice these innovative and creative mindful moments. Distraction\, anxiety\, and time limitations are some of the primary challenges parents and teachers face in reaching children and youth today. As parents\, our job has never been more complicated or challenging. Our growth-mindset is critical in these changing times with an awareness lit with love and acceptance. Deb Taylor’s focus on evidence-based activities supports healthier\, safer\, and more mindful communities through The MYndful Movement Program. \nThe MYndful Movement Program resources allow parents and children to practice alongside each other\, creating fun and relatable moments with sensory awareness activities\, emotional literacy games\, creative expression\, drumming exercises\, movement sequences\, breath-work\, and more. \nDeb is a primary\, intermediate and senior-level teacher\, curriculum writer\, OCT member\, professional development instructor\, mindfulness facilitator\, and mindful movement/yoga instructor with more than 20-years of experience in and outside of the classroom. Learning and sharing mindfulness techniques in a variety of creative modalities has been Deb’s focus\, particularly in education and family life. Deb’s deep appreciation for connection and collaboration is felt through her work with Mindfulness Toronto Professional Community\, A Mindful Society\, Mindfulness Everyday\, Mindful Schools\, Rock Outreach Centre for Kids\, and Braveheart Wellness Retreats International.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nZoom meeting: To join go to LINK \nMeeting ID: 859 5280 3857 \n
