SUMMARY:Journeying Through Our Life Transitions
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an opportunity to learn the Non-Violent Process ( www.CNVC.org) and Compassionate Mindfulness tools in the context of whatever life transitions you may be moving through. \nThis series of three workshops is for those of us in transition (with our identity\, relationships\, family\, career\, community\, illness and death etc) who want to: \n– learn practical ways to relate to ourselves\, others and our world\, through the process of Non-Violent Communication in a way that meaningfully supports our journey of transition \n– honour and acknowledge the depth of our experience \n– explore the profound difference it can make when we move through the challenges in our own lives with compassionate awareness\n \nFeb. 4 & 18\, Mar. 4 – Saturdays from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm \n(note * each day builds on the learning and teachings from the time before\, also the choosing of every other week is to allow time for participants to integrate and practise the skills learned)\n \nFacilitators: Henry Wai and Lori Goldblatt  \nHenry has 27 years of experience leading trainings\, developing programs and delivering direct service. Nonviolent CommunicationTM is a very powerful addition to his approach which emphasizes self-awareness\, choice\, relational skills and ways to build co-operation. Henry is a Certified Trainer with the Center for Nonviolent Communication www.CNVC.org \nLori Goldblatt\, is a Life-Cycle Celebrant\, Thana Doula\, and Reiki Teacher dedicated to the creation and facilitation of mindfulness-based modalities\, offering workshops and private sessions for children\, youth\, and adults for more than 20 years. Her training in Transformative Mindfulness Methods Reiki\, Compassionate/Non-Violent Communication\, and Emotional Freedom (tapping)Technique are all integrated in the caring work she offers. Lori and her colleague Rebecca Daum\, have formed a unique service called Meaningful Passages. SUMMARY:The Neuroscience of Mindfulness (DRAM 2)
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE COURSE:  \nNeuroscience is providing new insights into how our brain functions and influences how we think\, feel\, act\, learn and change. New research shows that mindfulness Practices can effectively enable learning by developing the skills of attention\, intention and reflection; enhance mental health; promote healthy relationships and communities; and manage stress/compassion fatigue. Through a combination of lectures\, small group discussions and meditation practices\, this workshop will explore how emerging neuroscience research informs our understanding of mindfulness\, and how mindfulness can be used to enhance teaching and learning\, and promote therapeutic presence with patients\, clients and colleagues.  \nThrough this course participants will:  \n Gain an understanding of basic neuroscience in relation to mindfulness.  \n Explore the impact of neuroscience research on our understanding of mindfulness\, compassion\, self regulation and attunement.  \n Experience mindfulness practices designed to deepen our body-brain integration.  \n Discuss the practical application of compassion and attunement in personal and professional life.  \nPrerequisite: None. \nCourse fee ( includes: materials\, breakfast\, breaks\, lunches \n $250 for HHS\, SJHH\, MFHT\, HFHT physicians and staff and McMaster Faculty;  \n $350 for external participants  \n\n\n\nFaculty \n\n\n Ken Burgess\, Asst. SUMMARY:A DAY OF MINDFULNESS: THEORY AND PRACTICE
DESCRIPTION: with Anna Taneburgo \n April 29\, 2017 8:30 am – 4:15 pm \nThis workshop/retreat will explain the principles of mindfulness while also providing ample opportunity to understand them from personal experience through the practices.  It is appropriate for anyone who is relatively new to mindfulness and looking to increase their knowledge and practice\, especially the benefit of short retreat experience; but also appropriate for participants who are more experienced and perhaps wanting a refresher. \nMindfulness promotes personal wellness on all levels of being. It is an evidence-based practice in which participants can experience: \n\ngreater ability to cope with daily stress\nlasting decreases in physical and psychological symptoms\ngreater ability to learn and focus\nenhanced interpersonal communication and relationships\ngreater energy and enthusiasm for life\n\nThe morning will be an introduction to mindfulness through both practice and teaching.
