SUMMARY:MINDFUL SELF-COMPASSION ***A TRAINING PROGRAM
DESCRIPTION:MINDFUL SELF-COMPASSION (MSC*) is an empirically-supported\, 8-week\, training program designed to cultivate the skill of self-compassion and is based on the groundbreaking research of Kristin Neff and the clinical expertise of Christopher Germer.  \nSelf-compassion can be learned by anyone  \nResearch has demonstrated that self-compassion is strongly associated with emotional well-being\, less anxiety\, depression and stress\, maintenance of healthy habits such as diet and exercise\, and satisfying personal relationships.  \nWHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE PROGRAM  \nMSC includes 8 weekly sessions of 3 hours each\, in addition to a 4-hour retreat. Participants should plan to attend every session and practice mindfulness and self-compassion at least 30 minutes per day throughout the program. \nNo previous experience with mindfulness or meditation is required to attend MSC. \nNext program starting Jan 18\, 2017 \nWednesdays Jan 18\, 2017 to Mar 8\, 2017\n3hours/week: 5:30pm to 8:30pm\nRetreat: Saturday\, Feb 18\, 2017  9:30am to 1:00pm   \nVisit www.mindfulselfcompassionhamilton.org  \nfor more information\, including dates and locations.  \n  \n*MSC is a compassion training program. SUMMARY:Mindful Self-Compassion
DESCRIPTION:Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) is an empirically supported 8 week training program designed to cultivate the skill of self-compassion.  Based on research by Dr. Kristen Neff and Christopher Germer\, MSC teaches core principles and practices that enable participants to respond to difficult moments in their lives with kindness\, care and understanding.  Rapidly growing research demonstrates that self-compassion is strongly associated with emotional wellbeing\, decreased anxiety\, less depression and stress\, maintenance of healthy habits\, and satisfying personal relationships.  Self-compassion can be learned by anyone.  It fosters emotional strength and resilience\, allowing one to admit to one’s shortcomings\, motivating oneself with kindness\, forgiving oneself as needed\, relating wholeheartedly to others\, and being oneself more authentically. \nOutcomes:\nAt the end of this course participants will be able to: \n\nPractice self-compassion in daily life\nUnderstand the empirically supported benefits of self-compassion\nMotivate oneself with kindness rather than criticism\nHandle difficult emotions with greater ease\nTransform challenging relationships\nManage caregiver fatigue\nPractice the art of savouring and self-appreciation\n\nSpecial Course Features:\nThis course includes a half-day mindfulness silent retreat (March 4\, 2017 8:30 am to 1:00 pm) focusing on self-compassion skills. \nFacilitators: \nAndrea Frolic\, Director\, Office of Clinical & Organizational Ethics\, Hamilton Health Sciences; Asst.
