SUMMARY:Mindfulness Hamilton Fall Retreat: Exploring Four Mindful Awareness Baskets
DESCRIPTION:Exploring Four Mindful Awareness Baskets\nSaturday\, October 25th\, 9am to 4pm\nSt. Cuthbert’s Presbyterian Church\, 2 Bond Street N\, Hamilton \nJoin us for a one-day workshop with Har-Prakash Khalsa to explore four fundamental yet contrasting and complementary approaches to developing Mindful Awareness. Har-Prakash will guide us through a meditation for each approach\, followed by a discussion where participants may share meditation experiences and ask questions.  \nThe Four Mindful Awareness Baskets are: \n\n Naming and Knowing – This approach empowers focused attention\, enabling us to recognize and establish a steady level of mindful awareness. It is particularly beneficial for those who experience distractions during meditation or throughout their day – which is just about everyone!\n Nurture Positive – This technique focuses on finding\, creating\, and sustaining positive emotions and thoughts. It serves as a counterbalance to the negativity bias and distressing emotions we encounter\, and cultivates an optimal foundation for improving our behaviors\, situations\, and relationships and achieving our goals. \n Do Nothing – The heart of the Do Nothing technique is the ability to skillfully let go of controlling or directing our attention while remaining effortlessly aware. This can lead to a sense of freedom from our conventional\, limited identity.  \n Turn Back – This approach turns our attention back toward pure awareness and can lead to a deep sense of fulfillment that is independent of conditions.\n\nThe Four Mindful Awareness Baskets is based on a framework developed by Shinzen Young that organizes the methods of diverse contemplative traditions\, East and West. Sufficiently practicing and integrating these approaches leads to the following:  \n\nExperiencing who you are at the deepest levels. \nReducing your suffering and increasing your fulfillment.\nShowing up fully to your life and being of optimal service to others.  \n\nThis workshop is suitable for meditators of all levels. \nHar-Prakash has been teaching and practicing meditation since 1984. He is the creator of the Cultivating the Jewel of Mindfulness Practitioner Training Program and Retreat Guide\, based on Shinzen Young’s mindfulness system and psychological-relational teachings. \nYou can find more about Har-Prakash and what he offers at https://www.cultivatingthejewel.com. Listen to a Mindfulness Hamilton podcast with Har-Prakash 3 | Har-Prakash Khalsa by Hamilton Talks Mindfulness \nFees*:\nEarly bird:  Member  $80 Non-member $100** Financial Hardship $50 \nAfter October 18th: Member $90  Non-member $110 Financial Hardship $60 \n*Fee includes snacks and drinks during breaks. As we recognize the challenges and opportunities of the present moment\, Mindfulness Hamilton’s Core Committee thought this was a good time to reflect on the needs of the community we serve and start to source new ideas for how and who we might serve better. \nRather than a strategic planning process\, we wish to engage our community in a bottom-up creative process to collectively explore opportunities in the current and future environments. \nWe are inviting all of our members\, and everyone who has been a committee member or volunteer to participate in one or both of our co-creation sessions\, along with anyone who has an interest in mindfulness education and support\, including mindfulness teachers and facilitators. \nThese interactive planning and design sessions will give participants a bird’s eye view of how Mindfulness Hamilton has been serving the community\, surface emerging needs and hopes from each participant about how we might go further\, and co-create sketches of future possibilities for the organization. \nPart 1: Sourcing New Ideas – Saturday Feb 26\, 2022 10-12 AM via Zoom \n\nSurface emerging\, unmet needs in our community and dream big about how we can meet those needs.\n\nPart 2: Ideas into Action – Saturday Mar 26\, 2022 10-12 AM via Zoom \n\nThe best ideas from Part 1 will be shared and turned into concrete plans\, experiments\, and actions to bring them to life.\n\nThe sessions will be interesting and fun. A number of different mindfulness and creativity exercises including breakout sessions will help to unleash our collective creative juices. The process will generate ideas and insights that can help us plan the way forward for our organization. \nWhether you are new to mindfulness or have a longstanding practice and/or promote or teach mindfulness\, this will be a wonderful and unique opportunity to learn and interact with like minded people who share common goals.. \nPlease consider joining us for one or both sessions. You do not need to attend the first session to attend the second one. \nIf you have questions\, please contact us at mindfulnesshamilton@gmail.com \nFacilitator: Sean Park\, PhD \nSean is a teaching professor in the Department of Medicine at McMaster University. DESCRIPTION:This will be an interactive workshop with a number of mindfulness practices and time for Q&A \nAmy will define chronic pain and mindfulness\, from the context of her approach to practice of physiotherapy.   \nShe will discuss:  \n\nThe existence of pain with and without damage\, the example of phantom limb pain\, and how the context affects pain perception.\nNeuroplasticity and how is that related to mindfulness. SUMMARY:Mindfulness in Sleep and Dreams with Jivasu: a half day workshop Saturday Sept. 18 2021
DESCRIPTION:Saturday Sept 18\, 2021 9:00 – 12:00 By Zoom \nDreams and sleep play an important role in healing\, \ creativity\, and spiritual growth. They are part of our subconscious and protect the brain in many ways\, including reducing information overload\, removing toxic energy of trauma through nightmares\, informing about repressed emotions and desires\, helping us to learn\, and accessing our creativity. Many great inventions\, including the discovery of DNA structure occurred in a dream. \nWe can train ourselves to meditate in dreams to experience higher levels of consciousness.  In Tibetan Buddhism\, a full yoga of dreams and sleep was created for this purpose. In Indian tradition\, the dream state is described as a distinct state of consciousness. In many ancient healing traditions\, dream diagnosis is used to assess the state of a person’s health. \nThis retreat is suitable for beginners\, intermediate\, or advanced meditators. \nIn this workshop\, you will learn about the science\, psychology\, and spirituality of sleep and dreams. You will practice techniques to remember and interpret dreams for healing\, creativity\, and spiritual growth. The workshop will include talk\, question and answer sessions\, and the practice of breathing exercises and meditation. \nJivasu is a physician\, spiritual teacher and the founder of the Natural Spirituality movement. Natural Spirituality is to unlock the powers of the Natural Self. It is grounded in science and the body. He has also studied mind-body medicine at Harvard. He teaches Natural Spirituality\, Nada Yoga (Yoga of sacred chants and music)\, Kundalini Yoga and Mind-Body Medicine all over the world. \nTo register go to Event Brite \nQuestions?mindfulnesshamilton@gmail.com \n  \n

SUMMARY:Mindfulness Hamilton presents Mindful Self Compassion: A Saturday Morning Retreat via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) is an empirically-supported program designed to cultivate self-compassion and is based on the ground     breaking research of Kristin Neff and the clinical expertise of Chritopher Germer. \nMindfulness opens us to the present moment.
