SUMMARY:Mindfulness and Chronic Pain with Dr. Eleni Hapidou: An evening workshop on Zoom
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will cover the basics of chronic pain\, including what it is\, how it works\, and the role of neuroplasticity     . \nParticipants will then explore how mindfulness practices can play an important role in helping people who suffer with chronic pain\, both theoretically and experientially. \nThere will be opportunities to move and stretch\, and a mid-workshop bio break. \nParticipants will be provided with  on line resources to support your ongoing personal mindfulness practice and management of chronic pain     . \n \nAbout the Presenter\nEleni Hapidou\, Ph.D.\, C. Psych.\, is a clinical\, health and rehabilitation psychologist practicing for the better part of 30 years. She works at the Michael G. DeGroote Pain Clinic\, Hamilton Health Sciences\, where she also conducts research\, and teaches at McMaster University.  Eleni is also a Yoga Teacher trained in the Sivananda and Satyananda lineage. She has trained with various teachers over the years that include Yogis\, Rishis\, Swamis some of whom hold MDs and PhDs and has participated in many retreats on Yoga and Meditation in Canada\, the Bahamas\, and India. \nEleni      has been teaching Yoga and Meditation to her patients with chronic pain\, depression\, anxiety and PTSD.  She has conducted thousands of meditation sessions over the years and has also recorded her own CDs of guided meditations.  She has extensive experience in Mindfulness techniques. \nFor further information and tickets go to Event Brite \n

DESCRIPTION:Long time student and teacher\, Daron Larson is presenting a Ted Talk this next Tuesday\, June 9th evening. It will be live\, free\, and online. It’s the first salon event hosted by the TEDxColumbus organization. They’ve invited Daron and another speaker\, Doris Korda to kick things off. Daron will be talking about how current events help reveal the potential for mindfulness to help people navigate uncertainty and difficult emotions. He plans to emphasize how “the monastery comes to us” — as Shinzen says — and how this can be an opportunity to strengthen our resilience and recognize our shared humanity. SUMMARY:Stress Reduction and Mindfulness Training
DESCRIPTION:Mountain Wellness Center offers monthly workshops\, based on the teachings of the MBSR program by Jon Kabat-Zinn. The workshops take place on the 3rd Sunday of each month. ( excluding July & August) and run throughout all of 2019. DESCRIPTION:“What consumes your mind\, controls your life.” \nLearn to take back control with Mindfulness Meditation. \nIntroduction to ‘Thought-Awareness’: the basis of all mindfulness. \nDid you know that the average human has 60\,000 thoughts each and every day? \nI’ve done the math\, and guess what?! \nThat’s almost one thought every second of your waking hours – exhausting\, right? \nBut here’s where it gets even crazier… \nOn average\, around 95% of those thoughts are repetitive\, and 80% are negative. \nWe are literally thinking negative thoughts on repeat like all freakin’ day! \nThese negative thoughts manifest in different ways including: \n\nNegative self-talk/judgement\nDwelling on the past\nWorrying about the future\n\nIn this workshop\, we’ll explore the foundations of Mindfulness & Mindfulness Meditation to see how you can regain control over your thoughts. We’ll look at the most common ‘mind traps’ and how we can get out from those traps.
